GDG DevFest Philippines 2016 will be on October 2, 2016 at Samsung Hall, SM Aura Premier, Taguig City. GDG DevFests are large, community-run events that can offer speaker sessions across multiple product areas, all-day hack-a-thons, code labs, and more. GDG DevFest Philippines 2016 will bring you the latest Google technologies with the world experts, hands-on activities that will challenge your skills, and fun and exciting games!

GDG DevFestPH 2015 Speakers

Takuo Suzuki
Lead, Developer Relations - Google Japan


Takuo is the lead of the Developer Relations team in Japan. He has a keen focus on Android's Material Design. He further engages in UX reviews of apps and further facilitates various design sprints.



Deuphil Kaufmann
Sr. Android Engineer / Team Lead, Onvolo

Deu is currently with Onvolo, working on a social discovery platform, IntroMe. His first Android work was in early 2011 for SmartNet, Smart's NetPhone then. Prior to Android, he has been working primarily with Java back-ends, and doing R&D on Mobile Widget SDKs for the Wholesale Application Community (WAC) for Smart under Novare Technologies. He currently co-organizes for the Philippine Android Developers Community (PADC).



Vicky Sy
Senior Java Applications Engineer, 77 Global Services

Christopher David

Toph is a VR Evangelist and Developer. He works as an R&D Engineer at Nokia by day but leads a double life in the metaverse. He co-founded VR Philippines to boost the local VR community and possibly help put the Philippines in the forefront of this exciting technological revolution. He is currently setting up his own VR startup, Veer, which aims to bring virtual reality to everyone. He also serves as the Board Member for VR at ACM SIGGRAPH Manila.

Vin is the co-founder & CEO of Green Room - leading mobile apps & web development company, with portfolio covering major international & local brands. He is also a self-thought programmer with focus on Laravel and HTML5. Vin's enthusiasm in building tech community led to the founding of Startup Penang with fellow startups in the region in 2011. He was also the co-founder of Google Developers Group George Town in 2013. He then organized GDG DevFest George Town in the same year which saw over 700 participants, further fuelling the startup bloom in region.

GDG DevFestPH 2015 Code Labs

Only a few days to go before GDG DevFest Philippines 2015! The tentative agenda is posted at http://devfest.gdgph.org/p/agenda.html. On both days, there will be a keynote followed by parallel workshops on Android M, Firebase, Material Design, Polymer, Cardboard, and more!

The workshops will be first come first served for each session and there will be a maximum number of participants per room. You are free to choose which track you want or the specific sessions you want to join. For example, you can join Code Lab Track 3 for the whole day. You can also choose session 1 of Code Lab Track1, session 2 of Code Lab Track 2, and session 3 of Code Lab Track 4.

You will need to bring your own computers for the workshops. There are also some things you need to download and setup on your machines before the workshop. It will be better if you can also bring your own extension cords and pocket wifi/dongles.

  • All workshops:We will be using Git and Github for our workshops. Please create a Github account and download Git on your computers. To learn more about Git, you can take the How to Use Git and GitHub Udacity course.
  • Android workshops:
    • Android Studio 1.2+. You can find instructions here.
    • Download Android 6.0 Platform and System images and the latest versions of Android SDK Tools, Android SDK Platform-tools, Android SDK Build-tools, Android Support Repository, Android Support Library, Google Repository, Google Play services from the SDK Manager.
    • It is also recommended to bring your Android device. You need to enable USB debugging and set up your machine to detect your Android device. Check this page if you need help. You can install a third-party Android emulator too, like Genymotion (follow this link for instructions in installing Genymotion)

GDG DevFest Philippines 2015

Update: GDG DevFest Philippines 2015 has been moved to October 16-17.



GDG DevFest Philippines 2015 will be on September 28-29, 2015 (Venue TBA). Day 1 will be Android and VR and Day 2 will be on Web. GDG DevFest is a community-organized event that provides the opportunity for developers to learn about Google technologies and other developer products. There will be hands-on sessions especially on new technologies like Android M, Firebase, Material Design, Polymer, and more.

Reymart Canuel
IT Manager, Philippine Business for the Environment (PBE)

Reymart "Canu" Canuel considers himself as a software devigner (developer and designer). He is the current community manager for GDG Baguio. His passion towards IT and environmental sustainability made him travel places like Germany, Japan, and Korea. He strongly believes in the potential of getting things done, inspiring others, and sharing ideas in effective learning most especially in IT. On his free time, he makes sketches(@guhitkwadrado) and explores new stuff.




Evan Dale Aromin
Software Engineer, Coins.ph

Evan is a Software Engineer that enjoys working on Android, Python, and Javascript. He started working on Bitcoin related technologies early 2012, and his fascination with digital currencies eventually led him to join coins.ph; a Bitcoin startup that brings financial services to the unbanked. As an active member of the tech community, he helps co-organize meetups for several groups such as the Philippine Android Developers Community and Philippine Tech Hackers. Recently he enjoys spending his (rather scarce) free time playing around with the Elixir programming language, and tinkering with mechanical keyboards. Aside from the tech stuff, he also enjoys talking to his dog, blogging, and waiting for the next season of Game of Thrones.

Benj Tupas
Game and Framework Developer at Blueprint Gaming

Benj graduated from the University of Saint La Salle-Bacolod just this year. Now, he is a Game and Framework Developer at Blueprint Gaming, a company that develops casino games for mobile devices, web platforms, desktops, and arcade machines. He is in-charge in building frameworks that bridge the gap between HTML5 technologies and embedded systems to run HTML5 games on casino slot machines and multiple screens display.
He is the co-manager of Google Developers Group Bacolod. A young technopreneur who founded Codefaci.com to facilitate people in building their ideas into apps and a part time freelancer who develops web applications. Outside his geeky world, he enjoys fitness activities such as going to the gym and do his morning run.

Josan Astrid Dometita
UI Engineer, Aestrea Software Development

Josan Astrid Dometita is an HTML5 enthusiast and Google Developer Group Community Manager for Cagayan de Oro City. Having the interest in the complex ins and outs of computer technology made her earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, with a major in Software Engineering. While still in school, she started freelancing online as a web developer, and expanded her portfolio of skills to become a vector artist and motion graphics animator. She started working as a Multimedia Developer in Manila and together with her friends, then built their own consulting and startup company, Aestrea Software Development, where she is the Creative Director. She calls herself codesigner (coder/designer), a hybrid name that could best describe her skill set, bridging the gap between both the design and development worlds.




Gail Tan
Head of Communications and Public Affairs, Google Philippines

Gail is the head of communications and public affairs at Google Philippines. Before Google, she was a TV producer, scriptwriter and communications strategist for two Philippine presidents for ten years. Gail left for Boston to take her masters degree in Management at Harvard University, where she also worked as a Social Media Manager for a National Security Adviser of former President Bill Clinton. She came back to the Philippines in 2012 to help open the Google Philippines office. One thing that people don't know about Gail is that she secretly claims that Google is originally GooGail - before she sold the rights to Larry Page and Sergey Brin.




Lorenzo Dee


Lorenzo "Zo" Dee heads the consulting group at Orange and Bronze (O&B) Software Labs. He has over 18 years of experience working with software development projects. Prior to O&B, Lorenzo worked as a managing consultant and technical architect for Headstrong Philippines (now Genpact). He is a certified Scrum Master, a Certified Java Enterprise Architect, and graduated with a BS Computer Science Degree from De La Salle University. He enjoys creating software with Java, JavaScript, Lean Startup, and pretty much anything else he can get his hands on.




Marie Lu
Online Marketing Manager for Wide-Out Workforces Inc.

Marie Lu is the Online Marketing Manager for Wide-Out Workforces Inc. where she is in charge of heading the team that handles their various marketing-related services, including SEO, Social Media Management, Online Ad Management, and services around Google Analytics. She is a Google Qualified individual for Analytics and AdWords. She also works closely with Google in providing Analytics and AdWords trainings for their partner agencies.




Edge Dalmacio


Edge Dalmacio is a Software Architect and Certified Scrum Master at Orange and Bronze Software Labs, Inc. His focus is supporting developers build financial products as Chief Systems Designer for O&B's top financial services client. Edge has a BS in Computer Science from De La Salle University Manila and business units from Stanford Continuing Studies. He is an active contributor to the open source community being the author of PHISIX API and having submitted enhancements to jPOS and Spring Integration Extensions. At home, he is a loving dad to his baby girl, Emma, a husband to his wife, Janice, and a "hooman" to an orange persian cat, Buster.
